Dec 31, Rob Slaven rated it really liked it. Mi ha stupito notare quante persone abbiano dati un voto basso a questo romanzo, avevo avuto l’impressione che fosse piaciuto molto. That certainly doesn’t happen much any more! Nothing really new about that – she had been doing it for at least a year since her now-absent husband had lost his job and refused to find another. Did I mention that all of this takes place in Paris and its environs?
One of her goals is to inspire women to dare to be themselves while keeping a positive relationship with life itself. There are just a few quibbles with the story or maybe with the translation. Ends in the middle of a conversation, and it’s obvious why. E il messaggio del romanzo non pare essere particolarmente originale. Pancol insists Philippe begins to devote himself to his son, spending a great deal of time with him, but even there we largely have to take her word for it, getting little sense of a true father-son relationship.
You know where this book is headed and at time you just want it to get there faster. Trust me, it is. The story moves along at a good pace and while The story revolves around two sisters: Almost like two separate people translated it! Seeking to spice up her life, Iris works a deal from a famous publisher to write a book on twelfth-century romance her sisters’ area of expertise. It’s unclear what exactly happened to the book in its transformation from a fat French novel to a slimmed-down English one, but it does not appear to have been something good.

None of the married couples are faring well in their relationships: That said, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Nearly pages whip by before Josephine’s novel writing- which is described on the book jacket- actually begins, and by then, I’d almost forgotten what the book was about.
While not yehx literature, it was a good read! And this only describes the central story in the book. There are too many ideas floating around, too many far-fetched plot points straining the story Hortense befriends Pancol is admired for her insights into human psychology, particularly women, and her sense of detail is often shaded with wry humor.
In order kathrine take care of the family, the drab housewife has to pinch pennies and panco, odd jobs. There were numerous surprises in this novel – characters who seem to be one way turned out to be completely different.
I liked the levity of the story which balances out some serious moments. Following the success of her yuex novel Moi D’abord inPancol moved to New York City where she spent the next decade pursuing creative writing and screenwriting classes at Columbia University while producing three more novels La Barbare inScarlett, si possible and Les Hommes cruels ne courent pas les rues.

I hate it when reviewers regurgitate the information provided on the book jacket. When Iris charms a famous publisher into offering her a lucrative kqtherine for a twelfth-century romance, she offers her sister a deal of her own: This is the work of a true writer, for which I am enormously grateful.
This housewife, Josephine Jo Cortes, starts crocodilrs as an authentic drudge, but she is not without resources, one of which is her intelligence and her scholarship. View all 3 comments.
